Want to own one of the finest and busiest restaurants/bars in Bar Harbor? The Thirsty Whale located at 40 Cottage Street in Bar Harbor is on the market for $2.795 million.
Acadia Cornerstone Realty represents sellers. The Whale has been open since 1988 and the current owners have been operating it for 30 years. The building was demolished and rebuilt in 2008. It has solar panels on the roof and heat pumps.
Of course, one of the problems with owning a restaurant/bar in Bar Harbor is finding help. They have a separate property available for sale which serves as employee accommodation.
The best thing about buying the Thirsty Whale is that Basil and Heather will provide full training, which we assume would include all of their great recipes, including Haddock Reuben!

Located directly on Cottage Street, you are close enough for guests to step off one of the cruise ships for lunch at the restaurant.
Imagine the restaurant full of hungry and thirsty customers. In general, the restaurant serves dinner until 9:30 p.m. in the summer, then opens until 1 a.m. Most years it is open all year round and offers great meals for locals.
Not only is there a fully stocked bar, but there are 14 draft beer lines
The burgers are to die for, but please don’t change the Haddock Reuben (Freuben) sandwich, it’s one of my favorites!
There’s even a patio out back, although I’ve never eaten there.
