MTMDESIGN complements the colorful and exciting design of ‘tomatito’ in Vietnam, as a tribute to traditional Spanish culture. the project marks the third incarnation of an original creation completed in shanghai in 2014. this new restaurant is designed in the style of a relaxed and fun spanish restaurant and tapas bar. located in an existing 1930s townhouse-warehouse in the heart of saigon, the space can accommodate around 100 people in three main areas: living room, dining rooms and bar area.

the designer has divided the main dining room with a bold, transparent red cabinet that filters out the views while providing visual anchoring to the entire space. the area is connected to the living room and opens onto the balconies with vintage red blinds. the second dining room is structured around the bar, generating a more relaxed dining experience. the bar is crowned with a neon ‘tomatito’ sign that lights up the room while half-open iron windows give a glimpse of the kitchen.

upon entering, the customer is greeted by a vintage polka dot vespa that doubles as a dj booth. the lounge, located next to the entrance, is decorated with wallpapers personalized by batabasta, vintage artwork from barcelona’s flea markets and neon sculptures in homage to picasso’s bull heads. the cabinet features an original bullfighter’s robe, providing a theatrical backdrop to the main hall. overall, the decor and design play between refined and industrial, vintage and modern, paying homage to the traditional tapas bar and to Spanish culture.
