The quaint town of Eden, which has a population of around 15,000 as of the last count, is the largest town in Rockingham County. In 1967, the city was incorporated by the consolidation of Leaksville, Spray and Draper. In the middle of the 18and century, William Byrd II, a planter from North Carolina and Virginia, owned the 70,000-acre estate that is now Eden. With his grand vision, he called it “The Land of Eden”, with the dream of attracting more people. A visit to the local museum will help highlight these events, including the town’s history in textile mills and manufacturing from the late 19and and 20and centuries. Explore Eden and be amazed at what you’ll find on this great North Carolina weekend getaway.
