Animal Crossing: New Horizons – Happy Home Paradise has brought all kinds of exciting new tools for budding interior designers. The addition of partitions, counters and pillars in particular allows interior designs to be even more inventive and impressive. This furniture menu combined with an empty room can get intimidating, however, so if you’re looking for some tips on how to make the most of these new features, look no further. We’ve taken a look at some of the best Happy Home Paradise designs from across the community to put together some essential tips and tricks for creating dream vacation homes.

1. Be divided

Adding partitions means endless variety and awesome illusions, but before we get into that let’s celebrate the very basic partition function of being able to divide a larger room into smaller ones. As you can see above, @StarryMynx on Twitter made Chabwick a perfect home impressively split into several cozy zones. Each partition themed with the wall it is placed against means that the hygge theme continues from the smoker kitchen to the living room and bedroom. If you’re inspired to do the same, don’t forget to add pendant lights to each dedicated room to make each feel like a separate living space. And while you can’t add accent flooring the same way you add walls, that’s exactly what rugs are used for. Place them correctly and they will make perfect rugs for each individual room.

2. Use accent walls and partitions as balconies

Now on to the exciting stuff. Sahara sells us mysterious walls that end up being beautiful landscapes since the launch of Animal Crossing: New Horizons but it has sometimes been difficult to accessorize them properly in our homes. Now we can use these bold visuals as accent walls and then build the rest of the room around them. Trix_Bunny on Reddit had the right idea and created a zen cabin with an inviting view of the beach and the open sea using partitions to create a balcony. With a divider on either side and a nicely placed rug with a wooden balcony effect, now it looks like we could just step out onto the warm sand for a quick dip. Complete the look by going to the lighting menu and setting the color and intensity to the right atmosphere.

3. Pillars for outdoor spaces

Pillars can also be put to good use to create outdoor seating areas for cafes or open booths. As you can see above, @Tropikitch on Twitter has absolutely mastered the illusion. Keeping the floors and walls rustic and natural means that Angus’ aquatic retreat is a dream home by the sea. Adding vehicles with the new update means the ‘exterior’ can be more compelling. than ever because we bring yachts, tractors or even cars inside to create these effects. And if you were wondering what the divider on the porch is, it’s a guard rail that was one of the many new items that arrived with the Animal Crossing: New Horizons 2.0 update. Also, remember that if you’ve perfected the interior of your Happy Home Paradise vacation retreats, you can organize the exterior, too. Once you’ve unlocked all of your own items by completing Happy Home Paradise, it’s especially satisfying to go back and theme Everyone’s Gardens as well.

4. Be counterproductive

The two different countertop sizes that arrived with Happy Home Paradise make brilliant additions to your cafe and restaurant setups, but have so many different uses. @Magicee_Maria on Twitter created a nice little bookstore for Molly using the two counter sizes and the additional unlockable customization options. Each is themed with the same brick effect and wood color and makes for a striking layered addition. With pillars on both sides, these countertops look amazing and look like a whole different piece of furniture. Whether you are presenting merchandise for sale or just want to show off a collection of gyroids, counters are an essential addition to your vacation homes. Always remember to head to the customization options to suit your design as well. You can either do this in the menu before placing an item, or highlight a placed item and then press X to change colors and patterns.

5. Use pillars as characteristics

Finally, remember that the pillars aren’t just there for balcony illusions, they can also be used to add depth to walls and as full-fledged elements. @Wiltedroots on Twitter expertly shows this above with this cozy natural bedroom. Hanging vines and floral patterned walls provide a true outdoor feel, and the pillar adds a rustic brick texture to complete the look. The different wood colors make the bedroom really natural as there is a distinct visual direction but nothing matches too perfectly. Add hanging plants and flowers and this bedroom is an ideal Happy Home Paradise retreat for any vacationing villager looking for a bit of peace. Keep in mind that just like custom counters, to unlock more than just the wooden pillar, you will need to reload Niko’s material box at the main office.
