Approved plans for take-out service and restaurant in Ilfracombe

Planning permission has been granted to build a restaurant and drive-thru in an industrial estate in Ilfracombe on the site of a former popular family skate center.

This week, plans were approved to create a combined drive-in and restaurant in a one-story building at North Devon Arena on Mullacott Cross Industrial Estate. It previously housed the North Devon Arena and the Family Skate Center until January 2019.

The building will be positioned at the rear of the site, and parking will be provided for the restaurant, consisting of six disabled bays and 40 standard bays. The restaurant will generate 11 full-time jobs.

The plaintiff did not specify what the building’s restaurant would be, leading local residents to question whether it could be a well-known Main Street favorite such as McDonald’s.

The building will have an industrial sloping roof and brick walls with PVC or aluminum windows.

No objections to the plans were received by Ilfracombe City Council or local parish councils.

The planning report states: “Although the proposal has the potential to impact Ilfracombe’s business activity, it is concluded that sufficient information has been provided to demonstrate that these impacts will not be unacceptable given the non-availability of alternative sites closer to the city. and the anticipated impact of the proposal.

“The economic benefits of such a proposal for the economy of North Devon as a whole carry great weight. Planning conditions can make development acceptable.

“The benefits of the application outweigh those that are unfavorable to it given the above. The request is therefore considered to be in line with the adopted development plan.

“Approval of the application is therefore recommended subject to the imposition of planning conditions.”
